What should you do if you experience a water loss?

Anyone who is a homeowner has dreaded water intrusion within their house.  Usually this means you will need professional help from a restoration vendor.  However - what if you knew some tips to help "stop the bleeding" and reduce the damage?  Here are a couple that you can use in the event of a water loss:

First - Turn off the main water supply!  Make sure to locate the main water supply valve in your house before you will need it.  This will cut off the water supply to the entire house.

Second - Be sure to stay away from any standing water!  It's possible the water can be conducting electricity.  This is for your safety!  Make sure the electricity has been turned off.

Third - Remove as much water as possible by mopping

Fourth - Remove wet area rugs and other floor coverings not attached

Do not try to use a regular household vacuum to extract the water, use any electrical appliances while on wet carpet, and do not disturb any visible mold!
